MADISON- Myrtle L. Brown, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Agrace HospiceCare following an inspiring battle with cancer. She was born on Dec. 23, 1933, in Madison, the daughter of Dwight and Ovidia Myers. Myrtle married M.D. "Brownie" Brown on Sept. 11, 1954, in Madison, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong resident of Madison's East/Northeast side. Myrtle attended Madison East High School, graduating in 1953, and Madison Business College. She worked for a few years as a secretary at Oscar Mayer and Co. Myrtle then went on to work at Visiting Nurse Service and Cooperative Education Service Agencies No. 15 and No. 2, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed spending time and traveling with her beloved family and friends. Myrtle was passionate about her music and could be found most Sunday mornings singing in a church choir; Trinity Lutheran as a child and young adult and Messiah Lutheran later in life. In retirement, she also joined the Monona Senior Choir enjoying friendship and fellowship up through this last Christmas season. Myrtle is survived by four children, M. Donald Brown, Mark (Michelle) Brown, Marlene (Steve) Houser and Michael (Anna) Brown; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as many dear friends and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.D. "Brownie" Brown; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 14, 2016, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or to the Carbone Cancer Center. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

What a beautiful lady both inside and out! I am honored to have known her and spent lots of family party time together. She will be sadly and greatly missed. I have so many wonderful memories but seeing her wheel through the conga line at Kristin's wedding was definitely at the top of my list. She always looked lovely but that day she was especially stunning. We love you Mryt!

Myrt was a wonderful friend to my folks and a trusted colleague of my dads at CESA 15. The tailgate parties at Badger games that Myrt and Brownie went to with my folks & others were always a highlight and brought great fun and laughter to them all. She was a wonderful person - our thoughts are with her family at this time.
