BELLEVILLE/BROOKLYN – Arlene Valentine Elmer, age 90, of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Heartsong Assisted Living Facility in Belleville. She was born on Feb. 14, 1926, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Jeffery and Grace (Pinnow) Nevil. She married LaVerne "Charlie" Elmer on Jan. 21, 1948, in Brooklyn. Arlene grew up on the family farm attending Jug Prairie School. She worked at Evansville Greenhouse for room and board in order to attend Evansville High School, graduating in 1943. Arlene and Charlie owned and operated the Anchor Club Tavern where she worked until 2012, retiring due to health. Arlene is survived by her son, Gerald "Jerry" (Linda) Elmer; daughter, Leanne Perushek; five grandchildren, Kelly Lindemann, Jenell Lindemann, Jody (Steve) Gerner, Jesse (Randy) Anderson, and Joel (Kally) Hardy; three great-grandchildren, Toni Gerner, Maxwell Gerner, and Taylor Anderson; brother, Lowell (Donna) Nevil; special niece, Donna Garvoille; special friend, Harold Amidon; along with numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; and daughter, Cheryl Lindemann. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 1 p.m., on Sunday, April 10, 2016, with the Rev. Sandra Schieble presiding. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Brooklyn with a luncheon to follow at the funeral home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday. This is a wonderful woman that was truly known by everyone especially from the well known Anchor Inn. I know her as one of my Best Friend's mother. Arlene we will miss you dearly you were special in every way and so kind. My sympathy and prayers to out to the family with lots of love. Sorry to hear of the loss of Arlene I have great memories of going to anchor club with my grandpa (Greg mchenry) she would alway have my Pepsi and sour cream and onion chips ready for me and shared my stories of my family .
