MADISON-Thomas George Gugel, age 60, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 15, 1955, in Madison, the son of Ralph William and Valerie Jean (Morgan) Gugel. Tom married the love of his life, Kathleen Marie Ewelt on Sept. 9, 1978, in Madison. He graduated from Madison East High School, and then served his country during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a degree in Accounting. Tom was a production schedule manager for Webcrafters for 38 years. He enjoyed baseball, golfing, bowling, and various Madison activities including, La Follette and East High School sporting events, Edgewood College basketball and the St. Dennis Festival. Tom loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy; three children, Jay (Cindy) Gugel, Andrea Gugel and Boomer (Maggie) Gugel; grandchildren, Callie and MacKenzie Gugel, Elliott Gugel and Faith Stluka; siblings, Barb Gugel, Rich (Karen) Gugel, Bill (Bonnie) Gugel, Mary (Chris) Nielson; father and mother-in-law, Don and Shirley Ewelt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg Ewelt, Bobbi Ewelt, Terri (Rick) Martinson and Susi (Bear) Holm; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy (Gugel) Gericke. Thank you to the Schumacher family for allowing Tom to be one of your brothers! A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 12 noon, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to a baseball memorial to be established at a later date. "In baseball as in life, all the important things happen at home."
