Obituary

MCFARLAND – Edwin H. Neitzel, age 89, passed away, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, following a short illness at Agrace HospiceCare, with his children by his side. He was born on June 8, 1926 in the Town of Scott, Wisconsin to Emma (nee Gehrt) and Albert Neitzel. Edwin proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre in Okinawa and Japan, in the Military Police. Edwin was very proud to be part of General Douglas McCarther's motorcade. In 2010, 62 years after returning from military service, Edwin flew for the first time since World WarII with his daughter on The Honor Flight. He was united in marriage to Judith Garber on August 10, 1957. Edwin and Judi made McFarland their home and were blessed with three children, Ricky, Timothy and Dawn. He worked very hard to provide for his family, from working for Madison Transit delivering newspapers to Milwaukee, as a carpenter for the Carpenter's Union and lastly retired from the City of Madison as a city bus driver and mechanic. Edwin loved being with his family, going hunting, fishing and spending time at "the land" with his sons and grandsons. Edwin and Tim took many hunting trips together. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and watching the Brewers and NASCAR with his wife, Judi. Edwin and Judi also shared many good memories traveling the U.S. in their motor home and spending time at Lake George. After retirement, he worked for his son, Tim, as a parts runner and mowing lawns for Tim's properties. Edwin was an active 55-year member of the McFarland American Legion Post No. 534. He will be greatly missed by his children, Tim (Mickey Thome-Neitzel) and Dawn (Kevin) Dommisse; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Neitzel; grandchildren, Jeannie Town, Nicole (Chris) Wrchota, Ashley (fiancé Jared Brereton) and Clayton Neitzel, Brittney (fiancé Mike Helming) and Brandon Thome-Neitzel and Caswell and Libby Dommisse; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Taylor, and Noah Zettelmeier and Amber Wrchota; and sisters, Leona Siebert, Lois (Jack) Mausolf, Donna (Perry) Clark and Margaret (Stanley) Kroeger. He is further survived by many loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judi; son, Rick; and brothers-in-laws, Joseph Krause and John Siebert. Funeral services will be held at MCFARLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5529 Marsh Rd., McFarland, on Monday, May 23, 2016, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Kelli Schmit presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens with Military Honors being conducted. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Badger Honor Flight, PO Box 258066, Madison, WI 53725. A special thank you to his care team, Kim, Tia, Loretta, Marissa and the loving staff of Agrace HospiceCare. "Dad, we love you also". Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com.
