Obituary

Lodi – Clarice Ruth Carlson (nee Brownrigg) passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born November 10, 1921 and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Harold E. Carlson; her sons-in-law Mike Webster and David Hahn and daughter-in-law Janet Carlson; also her cherished grandson, Jonathan Enockson. Clarice was born and raised on her family farm, on Arlington Prairie. She attended a one room schoolhouse, One Hundred Mile Grove school– and graduated Lodi High School in 1939– where she met her husband, Harold (Bud).  During WWII, Harold served in the Navy and Clarice joined the Army Nurse Cadet Corps, training at Methodist Hospital in Madison and Chicago, IL. Her nursing career included working for Dr. Wallace Irwin, Badger Ordinance, and Oakwood Nursing Home. For over 30 years Clarice was head night nurse at Lodi Good Samaritan Home. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and Esther Circle, where Harold taught Sunday School and their children and many grandchildren were baptized and married. Clarice loved nature and flowers, walks in her woods – especially in springtime, with jacks-in-the-pulpit, mayflowers, and lilies of the valley blooming. She always remembered friends, writing cards and making calls daily to the many who knew and loved her. Ever the nurse, she especially enjoyed serving those in need. Clarice was a devoted wife, and an adoring mother and homemaker; her home, family, and serving others were her world. All were welcome in her home, and many considered her a second Mom. Clarice is survived by her 7 children, James (Sue), Pam Webster, Brenda Carlson-Hahn, Julie Seston (Mitchel), Christine Enockson (Karl), John, and Melanie Ahlstrom (Guy); her grandchildren, Erik, Hans, Kirsten, Brooke, Colin, Garrett, Hillary, Cody, Tyler, Nathaniel, Emily, Caleb, Josie, Cory, KateLynn, Quinn, Brady, Will, Leighlin, Genevieve and 9 great-grandchildren; and her special niece, Judy Steele. Funeral Services will be held at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 206 Pleasant Street, Lodi, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 with Pastor Michael Lee presiding. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be at the HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main Street, Lodi from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 and again on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 1pm until the time of the service at the church. My sincere condolences to Clarice's entire family, I am so sorry for your loss. I truly enjoyed getting to know Clarice for the short time I spent with her. She was so kind and always so thoughtful and appreciative. No matter what she was dealing with, she always considered others first. We shared photos and talked about some of her favorite memories. I know she LOVED her entire family so deeply and what a special family you all are! May she now rest in peace, free of pain and discomfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you all ... RIP, Dear Clarice ...
