Obituary

FITCHBURG-Martha N. Romberg, age 77, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 29. She lost her long battle with an Immune Deficiency condition. Martha was born on April 15, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas to Leonard and Olga Nystrom. As an only child she grew up in Dallas, graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956, and after one year at Northwestern University she returned to Texas. In 1960, Martha received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors from Southern Methodist University. In 1961, she married Thomas Romberg, then a graduate student at Stanford University. Following marriage, Martha taught English at Santa Clara High School for two years before starting a family. In 1966, the Romberg family moved to Madison, where Tom joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Martha then spent most of her time raising their three sons and supporting her husband's career. However, when the boys got older she worked part-time for H&R Block doing tax work, and later clerked in the admissions office for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Martha enjoyed travelling on several occasions around the U.S., Europe, and Australia, and took several cruises. She loved gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, cooking, and chatting with friends. Martha is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tom; two sons, Mark and Matthew (Robyn); and two grandsons, Alexander and Gregory. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael. To celebrate Martha's life a gathering for family and friends will be held at the NAKOMA GOLF CLUB, 4145 Country Club Rd., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral & Cremation Care 2950 Chapel Valley Road (608)442-5002
