Obituary

DEFOREST/PORTAGE---Clayton "Bud" Loomis, age 80, of DeForest, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016, at Fountainhead Home. He was born on Feb.26, 1936, in Portage, the son of Delos and Charlotte (Townsend) Loomis. Bud married Janet Erb on June 5, 1965. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin—LaCrosse and taught physical education in Crandon and Portage, where he was also a football and basketball coach. Bud retired as Chief of Finance and Scheduling for the Division of Highways, Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He grew up across the street from the Portage Curling Club. Throughout his life he was a member of the Portage and Arlington Men's Curling Clubs and WISCA (Wisconsin Illinois Senior Curling Association). He was an active member of his church. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage, fishing, golf, gardening, and family camping trips. His family could always count on him. Bud is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Whitney Mathews of Oregon and Nick (Keely) Loomis of Windsor; six grandchildren, Lucas, Maya, Max, Kaitlyn, Tatumn, and Denali; sister, Carolyn Bennett (Mike Ross) of The Villages, Florida; and cousin, John Townsend (Arlene) of Coon Valley. A memorial service will be held at WINDSOR UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4434 Second Street, Windsor, at 12 noon, on Friday, May 13, 2016, with the Rev. Dr. David McDonald presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be designated to Windsor United Church of Christ. Bud was a dedicated State employee who always did his best to protect the citizens access to first class transportation through the application of state & federal funds.
