Obituary

STOUGHTON/DELAVAN—Emmet E. Schulz, age 91, of Delavan, formerly of Stoughton, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, after a short illness. He was born on Aug. 26, 1924, in Hillpoint, Wis., the son of Emil and Dorthea (Kruse) Schulz. Emmet served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan following WWII. He married Betty Jean Fry on May 10, 1947, in Hillpoint.  Emmet retired from Chase Lumber in Deforest. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring steam engines and was a member of the Baraboo Steam and Gas Engine Club. Emmet was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church and a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva. Most of all, Emmet enjoyed his family, which included his wife of 68 years, Betty of Delavan; two children, Dennis (Evelyn) of Delavan, and Dawn (Michael) Alff of Stevens Point; three grandsons, Matt (Laurel) Schulz of Dousman, Ross (Tonya) Alff of Stevens Point, and Andy Schulz of River Falls; four great-grandchildren, Emmet, Hasely, Caidyn, and Asher; and sister, Marion Gudenschwager. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Evelyn Fry. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County HWY AB, McFarland, at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, with the Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson presiding. Burial will be at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. my sympathies to Emmets family. I worked with Emmet for many years in college at chase lumber during the summers and he always made me smile. A finer man you will not find. His work ethic rubbed off on all of us even though i have not spoken to him in a few years i think of him often especially around the Christmas season when i would call to wish he and Betty a merry Christmas. Thank you to Emmet for helping make me the man i am jay
