Obituary

WAUNAKEE–Dorothea "Dot" Kahl (Birkeland), age 84, of Waunakee, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at her home, six days before turning 85 years old. She was born on April 18, 1931, in Madison, the daughter of Ole and Elsie Birkeland. Dot married Julian Kahl on Oct. 28, 1950, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She graduated from Madison East High School. Dot enjoyed playing cards and bowling, but her greatest joy was watching her grandkids play sports. She was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Dot is survived by her children, William (Diane) Kahl of Cottage Grove, Julie (James) Kuhlow of Waterloo, and Pamela (Ray) Phillips of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, David, Matthew, Ryan, and Jeff Schroud, Jamie Kuhlow, and Cory, Kevin, and Kyle Phillips; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, George; and sister, Margaret. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, April 18, 2016. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Waterloo Fire and EMS Supporters.
