Obituary
OREGON/FITCHBURG-Mary Gwendolyn Fahey, age 86, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Nov. 13, 1929, in Montfort, the daughter of Alban and Della (McGuire) Thierer. Mary graduated from Highland High School in 1947. She married Robert Fahey on Feb. 24, 1962, in Madison, and they lived on their family farm in Fitchburg for the rest of their life. Robert preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2008. Mary enjoyed quilting and doing crafts. She sewed quilts for RSVP and knitted baby caps for St. Mary's Hospital. Mary also enjoyed traveling but especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a long time member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church and the Fitchburg Mother's Club. Mary is survived by her four children, Paul (Kristine), David (Sara), Michael (Renee Martell) and Colleen (Patrick) Higgins; eight grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah and Nolan Fahey, Nicholas Fahey, Megan and Ryan Fahey and Katherine and Liam Higgins; two sisters, Ruth (Justin) Donahay and Gladys (Steve) Szabo; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter, Mary Margaret; brother, Melvin (Patricia)Thierer; and sisters, Shirley (Francis) Sennett and Zelma Thierer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, with Monsignor Thomas Baxter presiding. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fitchburg Senior Center, 5510 Lacy Road, Fitchburg, WI 53711, Holy Mother of Consolation Church, 651 N. Aunt Mary was always so kind to me, from the time I was a small child. She was very generous with her time and talent. She helped teach me to embroider and enjoyed showing me her beautiful quilts. She baked fantastic bread and rolls. She was always happy to have us come to visit and stay with her, and liked coming up to Oshkosh to visit my parents. She really led her life for others, and many people loved her as a result. I will miss her very much, but will have many happy memories of her.
