Duane G. Moran
August 08, 1931 - March 23, 2016
Obituary
MADISON-Duane G. Moran, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at his home. Duane was born on Aug. 8, 1931, in Morrisonville, the son of William and Anne (Midthun) Moran. He married Wendy White Tennyson on August 3, 1996, in Madison. Duane was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran and served in the Korean War. He fought in the brutal "Frozen Chosin'" which was considered by many to be a high point in the history of the U.S. Marine Corps. After graduating from Barber College, Duane started at Foster's Barber Shop on Milwaukee Street where he worked for 49 years. In 2013, he moved his shop over to Buckeye Road where he found many new customers and friends. Duane loved his Wisconsin sports teams; Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers. He was a Madison Packer Backer member since 1987 and participated in many of their events. Duane went to his first 'away' Packers game in Arizona this last December. Even though the Packers lost he had a wonderful time. Duane loved traveling, especially going on cruises with Holland America Cruise Line. This year was his 19th cruise and he even received a medallion noting the fact that he had cruised with them for over 200 days. Duane made many friends cruising and some amazing people at the hotel in Ft. Lauderdale where he stayed before and after the cruises. His greatest love was his family and he was very proud of his sons, step-children and all of the grandchildren. Duane was often found with one of the grandkids in his lap, either reading to them or entertaining them with many stories. He was noted for surprising friends and family with unexpected one liners. Ironically, even though he was honest to a fault, he always lied about his age, which was a long-standing joke in the family. Duane was also known for his love of reading mysteries, history and war books. Although he had a kindle he preferred an actual book, turning pages as he went. Duane is survived by his wife, Wendy; children, Morgan (Garmit) Moran, Jeff (Susan) Moran and Brent (Cheryl) Moran; step-children, Jason (Marcia) Tennyson, Daniel (Tiffany) Tennyson and Linsey Tennyson (Chrisshon Smith); grandchildren, Hannah, Becca, Maya, Aidan and Felix Moran, Gabriel, Mckenzy and Oliver Tennyson, Ariana, Aubrey and Quentin Smith and Ivy Jasper Tennyson; sister-in-law, Laurie Moran; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Joseph Tennyson; brother, William Moran; and sister, Jacqueline (William) Adamson. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 28, 2016, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and also from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the family will be directed to little libraries that will be set up in his name. Duane you are my best friend and soul mate. You made me a better person just by being with you. I love you to infinity and beyond. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
