Obituary
Middleton – Leonard A. Ziegler, age 88, died with his family by his side, on March 30, 2016 at Meriter Hospital. Leonard was born on the family farm in Springfield Township, on Jan. 6, 1928, to Joseph and Margaret (Laufenberg) Ziegler. He was married to Ruth Pedersen on June 14, 1951. They took over the family farm, and farmed there ever since. They were blessed with almost 65 years of marriage. He was a lifelong member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Leonard enjoyed playing cards (Solo & Uno), loving his cats, exchanging ideas with people, and farming. Survivors include his wife Ruth; six children, Greg (Mary), Verona, Linda (Joe) Pertzborn, Cross Plains, Patty Esser, Waunakee, Terry (Jim) Hoffmann, Dane, Cathy (John ) Zapotocny, Omaha, Nebraska, and Gary (Marcella), Madison; grandkids, Jeff and Maggie Ziegler, Dennis (Amber) and Susan Pertzborn, Jorge and Bobby Jo Esser, Melanie (Mike) Sachse, Ashley (fiance Mike), and Andy Hoffmann, Ryan (Fiance Carolyn) and Emily Zapotocny; great-grandkids Jaidin Esser, Micol South, Ivy Pertzborn and an additional great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by a sister, Marion Ballweg; and brother Edward (friend, Donna), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Elizabeth, sisters Rosalia (George) Buechner; Lucille (Jerome) Wipperfurth, brother-in-law, Edward Ballweg, and sister-in-law, Sharon Ziegler. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton with Father Brian Wilk presiding. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL Home, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, on Sunday, April 3, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery. We would like to thank Meriter Hospital ICU Staff for the loving care of our Dad. "Dad - We love and miss you. Thanks for your gentle guidance! "

I've known Leonard and Ruth since 1949. Leonard was a great family man. In recent years when I would call to talk with Ruth, I often chatted with Leonard first. I have many fond memories of Leonard. My sympathies to my dear friend Ruth and the rest of the family. Love to you all, Pat Carr

I remember working along side you Grandpa. Whether it be cutting wood, unloading hay, or digging for potatoes. I didn't get to do it often, but always enjoyed helping and appreciated your gentle encouragement. You would tell me that I could do anything.
