Obituary
MADISON-David W. Albright, age 96, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Stoughton Hospital (where he was given such wonderful care). David was born April 28th, 1919 in Malden, Mo., the son of David and Martha (Mince) Albright. On Jan. 31, 1939, he married Letha Roach and they remained a very loving example for our entire family. While in Malden, they had two beautiful daughters, Joyce and Janet. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in WWII. David loved his family very much and was quite a jokester. He enjoyed playing games like Cribbage and Sorry and doing jigsaw puzzles. He worked long and hard at all of his jobs and his last one was driving truck at Indianhead Trucklines. He also did charity work-"knitting" hats for needy children and he was a bell ringer for VFW during the Christmas Season. David was a very faithful church goer up until the end of last year. He was a member of Community Christian Church and First Christian Church before that, where he also took communion to members of the congregation that could no longer attend. There is so much more we could say about him, but most people who knew him, know all about him and those who didn't know him well, still got a very good sense of who he was. David is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Charles) Goecks; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren who will all miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letha; his daughter, Janet Johnson; both of his sisters, Essie Adams and Winnie Smith; a brother, Clyde Albright; and a great-grandson, Aaron Theis. We would like to thank Heartland Hospice for all of their wonderful care and support. He enjoyed visiting with them when they came by. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Did David live in Door Creek? If so, I got to know him as he walked his "loops" with his walker and I ran them, and I would stop and chat with him. I didn't know much about him, except that he was a veteran, and that he told me once that he was technically dead from a heart attack, I believe, but he survived and he walked pretty much every day, weather allowing. He would rest occasionally and I would pass him as I ran each loop, as he slowly, but strongly walked along. I started running a different route last year, and hadn't seen him lately, but always wondered if he was well. If this is not the same David I knew from our neighborhood exercising, then he looks like the same, sweet man I came to know. If it is, I will miss his smile and perseverance. All my best to his family.
