CROSS PLAINS-Suzanne Mae Koerner, age 91, of Cross Plains, WI (formerly of Eau Claire, WI), passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2016, at the Johnson HospiceCare Residence at Agrace in Madison, WI. Sue was born on June 21, 1924, in Oconto, WI, the daughter of Ora Sophia (Pfeiffer) and Wesley Hunter Mills. She married Marvin John Koerner on May 31, 1947, in Birnamwood, WI. After graduating from high school in Oconto, Suzanne completed nurse's training at Milwaukee County Hospital. Her first patient was her brother, Jim, who died of bone cancer at age 17, and her last patient was her husband, Marv, who developed Alzheimer's disease and lived to be 94. She and Marvin made their home in Eau Claire, where Marv ran the East Side Drug Store with his brother, Noah (Bunk). The couple raised two children, Connie and Jim, and attended First Congregational Church. Sue was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading mysteries, drawing and painting, family get-togethers, and playing cards with friends. She worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital. Suzanne is survived by her brother, William Mills of Wisconsin Rapids; daughter, Connie Keator of Cross Plains; son, James (Margaret) Koerner of Eau Claire; granddaughter, Cynthia Christofferson (Chad Catlin) of Oregon; grandson, Samuel (Jamie) Koerner of St. Paul; grandson-in-law, Steve Davies of Mt. Horeb; great grandsons, Justin Simpson of Sun Prairie and Peter Davies of Madison; great granddaughters, Amanda May Davies and Willow Rose Koerner of St. Paul; 20 nieces and nephews, and many more relatives and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Ora Mills; husband, Marvin; brother, James Mills; sister, Marilyn Corning; and granddaughter, Angela Davies. A graveside service and burial will be held in Birnamwood, Wi at a later time. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Fitchburg, WI 53711 and to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway St., Eau Claire, WI 54701. Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence... and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world...

My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Suzanne. The loss of our dear loved ones can be very difficult and distressing to cope with. It has helped myself and others when we remember that they now safely rest in the loving memory of our Grand Creator, waiting for the fulfillment of His promised purpose. Dear Connie, Jim, Margo, Sam and Jamie.....
Aunt Sue was always a kind and sweet person to me. Her beautiful smile always lit up the room.
She was also a great friend and Sister-In-Law to my Dad, Norm, and Mom, Lucille (Ceil). We looked forward to with great anticipation when the Norm Koerner family made their yearly trek in our Chevy Biscaynne to Rist Avenue in Eau Claire. I always think of Aunt Sue when I make her famous Roka Blue Dip.
I know she is in a Beautiful Place now.
