Obituary
MADISON-James Leland "Lee" Schaller, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Karmenta Center of Alzheimer's Disease. Lee was born on March 26, 1941, to Leland and Genevieve Schaller in Los Angeles, Calif. He grew up in Whittier, Calif., with his brothers, Bruce and Tom; and sisters, Elise and Sunya. After high school Lee pursued a career in sales and was instrumental in the concept of the "Beefy-T" t-shirts. Later, he furthered his education at UW-Milwaukee where he obtained certification in life insurance sales. Lee lived in Tomahawk and Hawaii prior to settling in Madison. There he met the love of his life, Joan Brice and they were married on Feb. 2, 2002. Lee loved music of all kinds and often played his parlor grand piano. He and Joan enjoyed dancing as often as possible at home or on the dance floor. Once retired, Lee and Joan traveled extensively, visiting family and all the West Coast Missions as well as the wineries. He especially treasured the Virgin Island Cruise as well as other ports of call. Lee was fond of all wines, had a passion for gardening and a zest for cooking. The love of cooking coupled with his appreciation of the outdoors led him back to Tomahawk to cultivate his friendships at Deer Camp ("The Shack"). The master chef in Lee created countless meals for his buddies over many years. Lee was a member of the Elks Club, an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce and a proud member of the NRA. Lee is survived by his beloved wife, Joan and her children; his children, Cindy (John) Sanchez, Christopher, and Cathy Dunne; grandchildren, Caitlin, Patrick, John Michael, and Christina. He is further survived by his sister, Sunya (Gilbert) Spofford; and special brother-in-law, Bill Polder; as well as his wife's wonderful family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; and sister, Elise. There will be no visitation or formal services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Karmenta Center, or St. Bernard Parish in Madison. The family extends their appreciation and gratitude for the loving care they provided Lee while on his journey. Our time was too brief. It still feels like the first time. An amazing man, my loving husband, know this, "Please forgive me...I can't stop loving you." Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
