Obituary
MADISON – Eldon Charles Vondra, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. He was born on Sept. 18, 1931, to Bernard and Hilda (Reuter) Vondra in Cuba City. Eldon attended the Vondra School in Cuba City.
Eldon contracted polio when he was 9 years old and while being treated in Madison lived with the Charles Piper family who became very special to him. Eldon considered Jane Kessenich (Piper) a sister.
Eldon attended MATC and it was here where he met Virginia Fitzgerald. On Jan. 9, 1954 they married in Stoughton.
Eldon established Vondra Engraving, Inc. in 1958. He was involved with many organizations in the Madison area throughout his career. Apostolate to the Handicapped and Monsignor Campion was an organization particularly dear to Eldon. He and Virginia were members of St. James and St. Dennis parishes for many years.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Shane (Kathryn Olson), David (Sue), Michael (Carrie), Eugene, Geralyn Hurley, Marylyn Rolling, Paula Crain (Tim), John (Lisa); 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth and Joseph (Rita).
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; brothers, Donald, David and Bernard; and sisters, Burnetta Neis, Darlene Loeffelholz, and Rita Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT THE ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. Visitation will take place at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. A special thanks to Meriter Hospital and Agrace Hospice for the loving care he received.

Eldon will be sorely missed. A wonderful man with a great family. I have many fond memories of fishing, camping, and jokes from Uncle Eldon. Our heart goes out to you. Our best wishes to the entire family.

I was a student at Vondra School too before it burned down. I remember Eldon had polio but all of a sudden he was gone from our area. Don Vondra was a neighbor for awhile but we, the Gearge H Timmerman family moved to Dubuque, Iowa after our mother passed away in 1955. Dad sold the farm near Cuba City. All 7 of us went our separate ways.
I am Ruth Timmerman , now Uppena, we live near Cobb, Wi. Robert, my husband is a farmer, renting it out now, I had been a x-ray technician,---worked in Madison for awhile. we are both retired, have one daughter, Julie Fritz, who lives with Ryan in Sun Praire. Both work for Dean Care.

Certainly sorry to hear of Eldon's passing. We always loved visiting with him and Ginny on their winter visits to the South. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
