MADISON/DEFOREST-John C. Kocvara, age 62, of DeForest/Madison passed away on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in 1953, in Madison, the son of Frances J. Kocvara and Geraldine E. (Smith) Kocvara. John married Marcia (Richard) Kocvara on April 22, 1989, in Middleton. He was a graduate of East High School and MATC and was active in DECA/Marketing Club. John was employed at VA Hospital and St. Vincent's. He was an avid Packer Backer. John is survived by his wife, Marcia Kocvara; daughter, Kelsey Kocvara; sister, Gail (Tom) Klein; brother, Joe (Pam) Kocvara; sisters-in-law, Connie (Alan) Koberle, Susan Pryce and Vicki Richard; brothers-in-law, Paul (Amy) Allen and Dean Richard; nieces and nephews, Lara Hart, Kate Koberle, Keith Koberle, Joa Kocvara, Lisa (Chris) Wery, Andy Kocvara, Mike Kocvara, Justin Kiefer, Shannon Morris, Jason Richard, Daniel Richard and Terry Richard; great-nephews and nieces, Savannah Wery, Cali Wery, Jovani Morris, Addison Richard and William Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Kocvara; aunts; uncles; and mother-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, with Fr. Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. John I know you can't see this or maybe you can. Growing up as kids we were real tight, best of friends. We went and did everything together, we were inseparable we did everything together. We had a lot of good times up until you went into the service. I wish we could have got together after you got out of the service. But I could not find you and no one seemed to know where you were. Well anyway looks like you had a good life anyway and that's good. Your in a better place now and God will look after your great family. Your going to be really really missed Buddy. Sad to hear one of my mentors has passed away. John was one of my earliest mentors as he came into my life nearly 30 years ago. He helped set me on the path my life would take by preparing me for my first office with Wisconsin Collegiate DECA. He spent hours educating me on the organization and shared his passion by developing me as a leader. Every year we would have our reunion at the State Conference in March at the Judges reception. My prayers are with his family as the celebrate his life and see the blessings of the time they had together.

We at St Vincent de Paul want to express out deepest sadness to here of John's passing. He was a respected member of the Vinny's team for 15 plus years. Marcia and Kelsey When I first met John, he was called coach by all. It spurred my curiosity. As I got to know this man, I found out exactly why people called him coach. John had a way to bring out the best in people. As the years at MATC passed by, John became my best friend, from the Concourse Hotel to New Orleans to Salt Lake City. Over the years he honored me by allowing to be an usher at your wedding to attending not only my wedding but the 10 year renewal service. John will be missed by me as a friend and a coach.
