Obituary
MADISON-Charles LaMar Lovett, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. He was born in Strong, Ark., in 1936, the first of four children to Cuverson and Nettie Mae (Smith) Lovett. Charles graduated from Gardner High School in Strong, Ark., in 1954. After graduation he served his country as one of the first African American Airborne Radio Operators for the U.S. Air Force. Following the service, he moved to Madison and met Marie Allen of Mobile, Alabama, they were married in Mobile on June 24, 1967. Charles worked at the Madison Post Office for 37 years, retiring in 2000. Charles was a devoted family man and loved taking road trips with his children to visit family. He had an incredibly strong faith and was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church for 32 years. Charles loved to cook and work with his hands. Some of his interests included woodworking and leather craftsmanship. He was an avid fan of both the Packers and Badgers, and was a season ticket holder for many years. Charles is survived by his wife; children, Monica (Dirk Jr.) Wichgers and Marcia Lovett; grandchildren, Joy, Joshua and Joseph Wichgers; sister, Thelma Leonard of Richmond, Calif.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LaJoel of Oakland Calif.; sister, Velma Bean of Strong, Ark.; grandson, Augustine; and granddaughter, Jazmin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday.
