Obituary

MONONA/COTTAGE GROVE- Patrick Kevin Mackesey, age 57, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Monona, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, with his family and friends by his side. He was born on Sept. 19, 1958, in Madison, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth "Betty" Mackesey. He married Kathryn Kellesvig on Oct. 3, 1999. Pat graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1976. After high school he went into the meat industry, eventually purchasing the company creating Badgerland Meats. Pat's business savvy led him to acquiring other business interests including, the former Patricks Pub, Alpha/Omega Distributors, Alpha/Omega Freight, Bourbon Street Grille, Licali's Market and Spirits and Popeye's Madison Franchise. He was a successful entrepreneur who treated his employees like family. Pat was actively involved in the Monona football programs, coaching in the PeeWee Program for over 30 years, and the MG Youth Program for over 15 years. He also played Monona softball for many years. Pat was an avid fan of Arizona State Sun Devils, the Packers, and Elvis. He was elected Village of Cottage Grove president this past year. In addition, he was a loving husband, dedicated father, best big brother, and kind and loyal friend to many. Pat is survived by his wife, Katy; two sons, Jack and Presley; four sisters, Colleen Serafini, Liz DuPlayee, Eileen (Kevin) Urso and Bridget (Bryan) Bollinger; father-in-law, Jack (Chris) Kellesvig; brother-in-law, Kurt (Angie) Kellesvig; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Willi Wilhelm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, with Father John Silva presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 3 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established supporting youth football programs in Monona. Pat, your love, generosity, big heart, and bear hugs will be missed. I am so sorry to hear of the death of Pat. He coached our CYO team in the late 70s. I remember seeing him at IHM at Christmas mass when we came to town. He was one very nice and giving man! The world needs more men like him!

Our son's football coach for 4 years (ages 10-14). He was a terrific guy- so giving and encouraging. His absence will be felt all throughout our community and we as a family will miss him. Please accept our deepest condolences. Matt, Heidi and Nic Kimble
