Obituary

FITCHBURG/MUSCODA- Sam Troia, age 89, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare on Thurs., Dec. 17, 2015. He was born on March 28, 1926, in Madison, to Gasper and Mary (Caruso) Troia. Sam proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning from the service he continued to work as a meat cutter, where he met the love of his life, Lucille Bomkamp. They were united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1952, and together they spent the next 63 years by each other's side. Sam spent the majority of his career at Eagle Foods. After retirement, Sam and Lucy moved to the Muscoda area where they enjoyed tending to their garden and having their children and grandchildren visit often. Sam was very involved with St. John the Baptist Church in Muscoda; active in the Holy Name Society, ushering, tending to the church and its grounds and the Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Sam spent many autumns in a tree stand built by himself and his sons. He was an accomplished hunter in his own right, but his true pleasure came from assisting family members on a successful hunt. Sam enjoyed many quiet afternoons fishing with his children, grandchildren, and his son-in-law. One of his greatest joys were the annual trips "Up North" with his family, spending the days fishing and playing croquet and the evenings playing euchre, a tradition that has been carried on for over 50 years. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him. Sam is survived by his wife, Lucille; children, Rick (Jackie) Troia, Bob (Deb) Troia, Denis (Caroline) Troia, John (Laura) Troia, Marie (David) Ramirez and Tim (Tracy) Troia; grandchildren, Lisa, Jennifer, Josh, Matt (Allison Veach), Sara (Ken) Koberle, Regina, Taylor, Rachel and Chris Kempfer; great granddaughter, Annabelle Koberle; sister, Ann Fanton; and sister-in-law, Bea Troia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank (Jane) and John; and an infant son, Sam Troia Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison at 11 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 with Father Tafadzwa Kushamba presiding. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday. The family would like to thank the staff at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital 4th floor nursing staff, and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flight, Inc. Dear Mrs. Troia & Family, Sending warm sympathy in the loss of your Dear Husband and Father. He was a long time worker. We both worked at the RC Wal Mart and that is when I got to know him and his wife. I know he enjoyed the outdoors as well. Warmly, Charleen Studnicka
