Wesley Gest

DEFOREST/MONONA-Wesley C. Gest, age 92, of DeForest, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on March 13, 1923, in Windsor, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Thorpe) Gest. Wesley married Kathleen R. Spangler on Jan. 2, 1943, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School and was very active in sports. He played Home Talent baseball for years. Wesley retired in 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years. He was an avid gardener and volunteered at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Nazareth House and St. Olaf's in DeForest. Wesley is survived by his daughters, Darlene (John) Streber and Diane Boland; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Streber, William Streber, Kristine (AJ) Bassuener and Danielle (Brandon) Ribordy; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife of 61 years, Kathleen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N. Main St, Cottage Grove, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, with Father Michael Tarigopula presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Wesley's family would like to thank Asters Assisted Living Facility in Cottage Grove for their wonderful care of Wes the past 2 years.
