Obituary

MADISON-Rick Ferrick passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 after a short struggle with brain cancer. He was born on Sept. 25, 1955. Rick attended Madison's Robert M. LaFollette H.S. where he excelled in track and field and graduated in 1973. His life was one of challenges, but no matter his personal trials, he always had compassion for those less fortunate. There are many who were on the streets who found a refuge from the cold and something to eat in the home he shared with his mother, Anne Armstrong (formerly Ferrick) and good friend, Julie Borchert. Rick was an exercise enthusiast and an avid sports fan; yes, he was known to place a bet or two on his favorite teams! Rick was a devoted son and will be missed by all who knew him. Rick is survived by his mother; brother, John; sister-in-law, Linda Johnson; niece and nephew, Jordan and Jackson Ferrick; close cousin, Marty Ferrick; many other cousins living across the U.S.; and his beloved cats. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Ferrick. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015. Annie , my dear friend, Rick will be truly missed. I will always think of Rick of when picking you up for wqrk and how he made sure you carefully got you in to the car but not before he bent over and would kiss you on your head and tell you he loved you! My prayers are with you and Johnny's family. I love you Annie my friend. Terrie Gauthier

We send you our love and our sincere condolences for your loss. Despite his many challenges, Rick was a lucky man to have had the love of his family to support him throughout his life. We're relieved he did not suffer more/longer at the end of his life and the notion of him experiencing peace in his exit is a comforting one. Here's a great big hug, and we know Rick is hugging you all all well and thanking you for loving him and being so good to him. Love to you all, Wendy and Tom

I could share memories of Rick, but i would need to write for a few hours. I haven't seen Rick for a lot of years, but i've never forgotten him. We ran track, played football, poker and hung around Anne and Mikes house way too much. He was in my wedding party, along with Brinson, and Bentzler. I will never forget the time Rick, Bentzler, Brinson and I all drove to florida in 1974 for a 2 week vacation. We lived on crackers and beer. Slept on the ground and in the car, got kicked out of strip club, and got chased by the cops. Rick and Brinson had to bail Bentzler and I out of jail and that, killed our money supply. We limped back into Madison with about 2 dollars between us. Priceless. That is one of many stories we all have experienced together. We were all inseparable for a long time. Anne and Johnny, you know I love you guys and I feel your pain. Its hard for me to write this without tearing up. We were all a big part of each others lives, even though it was for a short time. Rick, if by chance you're reading this, I will miss you very much, and thanks for some very cool memories. Your friend, Jeff Mattie.
