Frank Evers Potts

MADISON-Frank Evers Potts, age 87, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on May 19, 1928, in Washington D.C., the son of John Hartley and Alice Mildred (Reed) Potts. Frank married Rosalie Patricia (Coronna) Potts on Sept. 17, 1949 in Washington D.C. He was born and raised in Washington D.C. and later moved to Madison with his wife and daughter, Karen, in the mid 60's where he spent the rest of his life. Frank was a two time Navy veteran, serving for 9 years in both WWII and the Korean War as a Aerographer's Mate Second Class. He also was involved in the Atomic Bomb Testing in 1945. After serving in the Navy, he worked for the Federal Transportation Department in Washington D.C., until moving to Madison where his wife was born and her family was located. At that time, he then worked for the Wisconsin State Transportation Department as a Chief Supervisor for the Elderly and Handicap transportation programs. On the Federal level, his job provided him the opportunity for worldwide travel to study modes of transportation in other countries that could be beneficial here in the United States. With his state position here in Madison, his travels were within the United States. Frank retired at the age of 65. He especially enjoyed projects with woodworking, country music, reading and web surfing. Frank was very artistic with drawing and painting, and did drafting for several local architects throughout the years. He very much enjoyed his backyard wildlife, especially the hummingbirds, cardinals and goldfinches. Frank was a very 'young' 87 year old who remained very physical and active and had projects going even up until he was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital on Nov. 6, 2015, and unfortunately did not make it home. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Marie Potts of Madison. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 61 years, Rosalie. He requested that no service be held, but contributions in Frank's memory to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Frank will be sadly and deeply missed by his daughter, Karen, who wishes to thank all the staff at St. Mary's Hospital who did a wonderful job in caring for him during his two week stay; from the doctors to the nurses, the therapists and the chaplain who were all so supportive during his care.
