Obituary

BELOIT/BROOKLYN- Phillip H. "Duke" Snyder Jr., age 74, of Beloit/Brooklyn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Nov. 20, 2015. He was born on June 13, 1941, at St. Claire Hospital in Monroe, the son of Philip and Pauline (DeRemer) Snyder. Phil "Duke" was raised in and graduated from Brooklyn High School. One of his favorite memories from high school was being a member of the '59 football team. He retired after 33 years with General Motors beginning with Fisher Body. Phil was a rural route sub-carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served on the Brooklyn Village Board and Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Dept., reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Phil was also a "jack-of-all-trades" for Atonement Lutheran Church in Beloit. He was a member of Local Union No. 95 and Loyal Order of Moose No. 191 in Beloit. Phil enjoyed old classic movies, big band music and 50's rock n' roll. He loved history, WWII and found a special interest of the American Civil War, which led to becoming a member of Battery G, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery a re-enactment group out of Stillman Valley, Ill. He was also associated with 1st U.S. Engineers, Cumberland Guard and 2nd WI of the fame Iron Brigade. Phil also was an avid fan of the Badgers, Packers, Brewers, Badger basketball road to the final four and Nascar. Phil "Duke" is survived by his daughters, Keri Lynn (Dennis) O'Donnell and Kelly Jo (David) Baker; sister, R.Lee, (Philip) Erpenbach ; and brother, Steve (Lorraine) Snyder; granddaughters, Ashlie Marie (Tony) Ogello, Kahla Lee and Kassi Rae Baker; and his two great-grandsons, Cole James (CJ) and Brayden Ogello. Phil "Duke" was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Anechia Snyder; and very special lady, Sandra Edge. A special thank you to the Beloit Regional Hospice, especially Teresa, JoAnna and Pam. As well as a very special thank you to Rocky. Per Phillip's request, there will be no services.
