Edwin Lewis Savee

MADISON-Edwin Lewis Savee, age 75, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015. He was born Sept. 10, 1940, in Madison, the son of Lewis and Anna (Mathison) Savee. Ed graduated from Madison East High School, Class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1962 until January 1965. On June 22, 1968, Ed married Mary Lou Jurgensen in Madison, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Known as Fast Eddie, he served on the Madison Fire Department 1968-1992, where he worked at stations 4, 5, old 8 and new 8. He drove the last route from the old station 8 and the first route of the new station 8. Ed was a dedicated City of Madison firefighter, who enjoyed his job and helping others. He also cherished the many relationships that were built throughout his employment in the fire station. Ed loved the Badgers, the Packers (until Favre left), watching the Brewers, spending winters in Florida, and the daily news. Ed looked forward to his East High School Class of 1959 reunions. He loved spending Christmas Eve at the Holy Cross candlelight service with his family. Ed enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their variety of activities. He was a true and proud Madisonian, who loved his city. Ed was a thoughtful, generous, selfless, and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Mary, of 47 years; three children, Sherry (Mark) Zimbal of Delafield, Kimberly (Micah) Zielke of Cottage Grove, and Beth (Paul) Lindorff of Madison; seven grandchildren, Madison and Joshua of Delafield; Zachary, Benjamin and Riley of Cottage Grove; and Stella and Bianca of Madison. Edwin was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; his step-mother, Stella Savee; his four sisters, Doris Kindschi, Mildred Savee, Donna (Al) Peek and Jenny (Ed) Grosse; and other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, with Pastor Mark Bartels presiding. A time of visitation and support will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015 and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. The family wishes to thank Ed's many visitors. They would also like to extend their appreciation to the Wisconsin Dialysis Center, the staff at the UW Hospital for their excellent care and the caregivers at Heartland Hospice for their kindness.
