Obituary

MADISON/TUCSON, ARIZ. – Edith Ann (Fosbinder) Gerl, age 76, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt Edie Gerl, passed away in her home in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015. She was born in Lone Rock, Wis., on May 1, 1939, to Clarence and Bertha Fosbinder. She moved to Madison with her sisters, where she did clerical work in the Geology Department at the University of Wisconsin, which she enjoyed immensely. Shortly after marrying Al Gerl in 1973, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she helped manage the restaurant they owned. After selling the restaurant, Edie worked for the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) in the Transportation Department for ten years until she retired in 2006. Edie had an amazing work ethic, and cherished the many friends she made at work and in retirement. She loved visiting Madison, the city she still considered home, to spend time with family and friends. After marrying Al, Edie became the loving step-mom to four sons and one daughter. With Al, she had one son, Brian, who was the light of her life. When her two grandsons were born in Tucson, she took care of them often and loved them immensely. Edie was an incredibly devoted mom, grandma and sister, and enjoyed telling funny and heart-warming stories about her childhood, her kids, and her grandkids. Edie is survived by her son, Brian (Amy); step-sons, Albert, John (Sharon) and Michael Gerl; step-daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Dvorak; sisters, Eleanor Fosbinder and Leone (Bruce) Young; brothers, Keith, Jim, Jeff, and John Fosbinder; and nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; brothers, Marv, Ken and Vern Fosbinder; sister, Jean Fosbinder; and step-son, Tony. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, with Chaplain Steven Zwettler presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Edith. The loss of our dear loved ones can be very difficult and distressing to cope with. It can help us when we remember that she now safely rests in the loving memory of our Grand Creator, waiting for the fulfillment of His promised purpose. Also, may your own good and loving memories of Edith help to soothe your hearts. Sincerely ( Revelation 21 : 3-5; Acts 24 : 15; Psalms 37 : 11 )
