Obituary
STOUGHTON–Matthew Lee Elsing died tragically in a car accident on the night of Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the age of 22, while traveling back from a sporting event he was working at for his athletic training internship. Matt was loved and respected by many - he had a smile to light up a room and the personality to match – wherever he went laughter followed. He was passionate about the field of sports medicine and had aspirations to continue on to graduate school after graduation in May. Though tending to the injuries of athletes at UW-Eau Claire and the Madison Mallards was his greatest personal passion, Matt never missed an opportunity to spend time with his friends and family. Matt was funny, smart, and kind to everyone he met, and will be missed by countless friends, colleagues, and family members. He is survived by his parents, Ross and Susan Elsing; three brothers, William, Jason (Kathryn) and Lucas (Katherine); niece, Aubrey; his beloved dog, Lexus; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends far too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Helen Dowling and Walter and Marvel Elsing. Funeral services will be held at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 Co. Hwy B Stoughton, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 with Pastor Scott Geister-Jones presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Matthew will be laid to rest at Graves Cemetery on Friday, October 9, 2015 with burial procession to leave Gunderson Stoughton funeral home at 10 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

So sorry for your loss, my daughter is also in Athletic training in EC ....we are at a loss for words. From what my daughter says, he had touched the lives of many and will live on through the students and instructors who Matt knew, in spirit and memories. Prayers being sent for your family.

I was devastated to hear about Matt. He was such a sweet kid and so helpful. After Nick died Matt was around to help do whatever was needed. I remember him hanging out on the deck with me counting flies. What a dear sweet child and he never changed! What a joy. My sympathies are with you and your family. I know this will leave a void in your family but please remember all the joy he brought to you and others.

I just read the memorial for Matt in the NATA News. I have instructed athletic training students for 36 years, 31 of those here at UW-L. They are special people, I know Matt must have been also. My son is an '09 alum of the UWEC AT program and I know that they do an outstanding job of teaching AT students there. My understanding is that Matt was to be an outstanding athletic trainer.
I want you to know that the entire AT profession is mourning the loss of Matt.
