Obituary

Black Earth - Robert G. "Bob" Mattix, age 58, passed away on October 3, 2015 from cancer. Bob was born on March 25, 1957 to Lloyd and Janet (nee Dederich) Mattix and grew up in Middleton. He played little league and home talent baseball. Bob always enjoyed a good, competitive basketball "game" with his dad at the hoop on his parents' garage. He loved coaching his girls' basketball teams in Deerfield in the 90s. He rooted for the Packers every game. Bob was an Army veteran and served in Germany after high school during the Cold War. He was a military history buff, loved sharing it and read whatever he could get his hands on. Bob worked construction and was a long haul trucker for many years with an impeccable safety record. His grandchildren loved spending time with "Papa." Bob is remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and a great friend.He was a jokester – a real character with a zest for life. He had a great sense of humor and always a good story to share. Survivors include his daughters: Allison Mattix and her son Brantley, and Janna Mattix and her daughter Isabell; his siblings: Timothy J. Mattix and his wife Mary Weber; and Susan Mattix; his nieces and nephews: Benjamin (Sara) Braydon, Jessica (Josh) Olsen and their children Sophie and Dylan; Catherine (Justin) Blanchar and their children Carlyn, Autumn and Hunter; Timothy F. Mattix; Sarah (Nick) Deering; Laura Mattix; Jerid (Sheryl) Scott; and Courtney Scott; his brother-in-law Gary Scott; his special friend Evonne Kundert; his former wife and mother of his children, Lois Chambers Mattix; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jennifer Mattix Scott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 8, 2015 with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Loreto, Wis. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton from 4 PM until 7 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 and at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
