Obituary
MIDDLETON-Grace Furst Melnarik, of Middleton, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Oakwood Village University Woods, Madison. Grace was born on November 29, 1916, in Fairfax, MN., the daughter of Martin and Lilly Furst. She worked in retail in the Madison area for many years ending her career at Prange's Bridal Department. Grace loved fashion and took great pride in her appearance. Golfing, traveling and spending time with her family were her favorite things. She was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Middleton and the Middleton Senior Center. Mom was a skilled cook and pie maker. Her children relied on her to pass along the traditional recipes with directions like "bake until done" or "knead until it feels right". She and Dad loved to dance and their specialty was the polka. Grace is survived by a son, Edward (Shirley) Melnarik, Jr.; daughters, Gayle (Jerry) McMorrow and Jennifer (Tim) Allen; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren (including three sets of twins) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lilly and Martin Furst, her husband of 47 years Edward J. Melnarik, Sr., a son Michael Melnarik, three brothers and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at OAKWOOD WEST, RESURRECTION CHAPEL, 6201 Mineral Point Road, Madison at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or Midvale School Health Office, 502 Caromar Drive, Madison, WI 53711. Greg and I would like to express our sympathy to the entire family at the loss of Grace. The greatest tribute to her is the loving family she left behind. We remember fondly how Jenny and Tim included her in their holiday open house gatherings and it was obvious in talking to her how much she loved you all. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. My husband and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of your beloved Grace. Although we never had the opportunity to meet Grace, personally we wanted to share with you comfort from Gods word found in John 5:28,29. Here Jesus showed us the wonderful example of the resurrection when he resurrected Lazarus here on earth, back to the arms of those he loved. (John 11). Remember also that our Heavenly Father expresses his loving compassion for all of us when someone we love dies. (Psalm 34:18) Be sure to share your memories with those who surround you, for the memories shared are the ones most truly cherished, may they bring you a sense of peace and joy in your hearts as you begin to heal. Take care of yourselves and each other during this very difficult time.

Grace Melnarik Family
There is no mention of your family living in Baraboo during the late 1940s. However there are too many similarities in the rest of your mom's obituary for me not to believe that I babysat for your family back then. Your parents were a cheerful fun loving pair. They frequently had difficulty waking me up to let them in when they got home in the wee hours. You were a lively family of blonde children. Sometimes it was a struggle getting you all into bed on a summer evening! :) But my memories of your family are fond ones. You have my sympathy for her death. May you have peace in your hearts to join your good memories.
