Barbara Jean Seifriz

MADISON-Barbara J. Seifriz, age 83, passed away from cancer, peacefully at her home, on Oct. 27, 2015. She was born on March 4, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Berryman) Hanna. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1949 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She married Duane A. Pierstorff on April 7, 1956 at St. Steven's Lutheran Church in Monona and James R. Seifriz on Aug. 10, 1963 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Madison. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane in 1958; and her husband, James in 1996. She is survived by her three sons, Daniel (Patty) Pierstorff of Minnetonka, Minn., Timothy (Patti) Seifriz of Middleton and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Seifriz of Roseville, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Rachel and Nathan Pierstorff, Eric and Emily Seifriz, and Jalen and Jordan Seifriz. Barbara was a lifelong eastsider. She loved Madison and rarely found the need to travel far from home. Barbara bestowed time, love and attention on her boys and later got great joy from spending time with her grandkids. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed word puzzles and watching college basketball, especially the Badgers. Barbara was a 50 year member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and her faith and family were most important to her. She looked forward to the monthly dinners with her friends, from the Wisconsin Air National Guard, in the "birthday club". The family would like to recognize the friendship and support of her neighbors on the circle, especially the Tokheim's and Enders'. They would also like to thank her caregivers whose help allowed her to return to her home following her cancer diagnosis in July and live out her remaining days surrounded by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
