Obituary

MADISON-Doris Good, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Kindred Hearts Senior Living in Cottage Grove. She was born on Dec. 26, 1926 in Baraboo, the daughter of Paul and Allie Smith. Doris graduated from East High School in 1944 and then was employed as a beautician. She married Stanley Good in August of 1949. One year later, they moved to their Madison home of 65 years. For Doris, her four children were a central part of her life. They spent many family vacations in northern Wisconsin, enjoying camping, boating, swimming, fishing, and water skiing. As grandparents, the tradition of extended family camping continued on an annual basis, starting in 1981 and continued for 31 years at Council Ground State Park in Merrill. In 1973, she was honored by the Metropolitan Women's Club for the enrichment and joy she gave to others. She was most proud of providing foster care to a hearing impaired boy and participating in a church sponsored summer program aimed at integrating black youth from Mississippi with families from Madison. At home, Doris enjoyed her flower garden, reading, sewing and playing bridge. Later in life, Stanley and Doris traveled to the Caribbean, Panama and Arizona to visit her sister, Betty Schwartz Topp. Locally, Doris enjoyed playing the slot machines at Ho Chunk casino with her daughter-in-law, Jane. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; children, Gail (Thomas) Syverud of Ashland, Stuart (Jane) Good of Lodi, Allison (Scott) Hermanson of Madison and Sugar Camp, and Holly Good of Madison; nine grandchildren, Amy Good, Monica Good, Travis Good, Jenny (Brendan) Finn, Andrea Hermanson, Dustin (Jessica) Hermanson, Jesse (Katie) Juisto, Shannon Juisto, and Alicia Juisto; 13 great-grandchildren, James and Alaina McIntyre, Logan and Connor Finn, Cooper and Emery Hermanson, Lola, Gemma, Cashton and Presley Juisto, and Brody, Faith and Sydney Juisto; niece, Natalie Reuss of New York City, N.Y.; nephew, Kraig (Ann Hirshi) Schwartz of Seattle, Wash; and many special friends. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Olbrich Gardens. My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Doris. The loss of our dear loved ones can be very difficult and distressing to cope with. It can help us to remember that she now safely rests in the loving memory of our Grand Creator. May your own good and loving memories of her help to soothe your hearts. Sincerely ( Revelation 21 : 3-5; Acts 24 : 15; Psalms 37 : 11 )
