Obituary
MADISON – Robert G. "Bob" Hewitt, age 80, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Madison, the son of Irvin and Eva (Sailor) Hewitt. Bob served in the U.S. National Guard for five years, seven months and 15 days (as he recently shared). He was employed at Stearns Packaging Corporation for 57 years. Many years ago Bob briefly retired from Stearns and learned how much he would be missed at Stearns. During Bob's retirement party, the owner of Stearns, George Everitt, announced that he could not imagine coming to work without Bob also being at Stearns, "so effective today, I also retire." Bob viewed Stearns as his home away from home and returned to Stearns and continued making deliveries until his death. Bob was loved by so many people. He was a loving father, brother and friend. Bob was a big fan of the Badgers and Packers football teams. He was the epitome of a "good guy". Bob is survived by his children, Steve (Connie) Mathison, Paul Hewitt, Mike (Lori) McDougall, Jayne Quinn, Steven McDougall, Mark (Shelly) McDougall, and Diana Tyzinski; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Eric, Sarah, Shaina, Brandon, Jack, Alex, Mitchell, Austin; sisters, Devey (Keith) Parman and Sharon (Don) Davis; and longtime friend, Betzy Fenne. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; siblings, Waiva Jean Loy, Keith Loy, Donald Hewitt, Marilyn Hewitt, and Emerald "Leroy" Hewitt; and grandson, Travis McDougall. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
