Donald Lawrence Moffett

MADISON-Donald L. "Don" Moffett, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. He was born on May 12, 1927, in Plain, the son of Francis and Pearl (Payne) Moffett. Don was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, serving three years in Germany. He was recalled in 1950 through the Army Reserves to serve in Korea and Japan. Don decided to make the military a career and worked with various missile systems including the Hercules and Hawk Systems. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1967 from the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the military, Don became a broker for First Realty in Dane County and later started First Priority Realty where he built single family homes and duplexes. Don built high energy efficient homes before it was more common. In retirement, he volunteered hundreds of hours for the VFW Post No. 1318 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also an avid cribbage player and enjoyed traveling in his R.V. Don is survived by his two sisters, Loretta Briggs and Shirley Defliger; nieces, Michelle Kneebone and Lisa Hoffmann; and many other nieces, nephews and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Moffett, Clarence Moffett and Cecil Moffett; sisters, Yhonda Moffett, Marlene Chute, Arnita Woelfel, Doris Stofflet, and Irene Olson. A Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., with a time of sharing at 3 p.m., and military honors to follow, on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015. Memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Dane County Humane Society.
