Obituary
MADISON-Thomas "Tom" "Dusty" Seiberlich passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, after a valiant battle with melanoma. Tom was a fiercely proud Madison native and 1953 East High School graduate. He was also a passionate sports fan and could be found cheering for his beloved Packers and Badgers on any given weekend. An avid angler, hunter and gardener for much of his life, he was most content spending time in or on water. In later life he took great joy in recounting his U.S. Marine Corps service, his time at UW-Madison, as well as his many hunting and fishing adventures with lifelong friends. Tom was a recipient of a Madison Police Department Lifesaving award in 1975, for rescuing an occupant of an overturned car from Lake Monona. One year later, he was named a winner in The Capital Times fishing contest for pulling a 19-pound northern pike from the same lake. Tom is survived by his sister, Carole (Thomas) Nelson, his children, Sandee (Matthew Hood) and Brett; along with twelve nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annette and Ervin Seiberlich; and his sister, Jean (Clayton) Bossart. A memorial ceremony will be held at FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Road, Madison, at 10:15 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, with a gathering for family and friends immediately following the service. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be donated to We Honor Veterans (wehonorveterans.org) or the Wisconsin Endangered Resources Fund (dnr.wi.gov/topic/endangeredresources). The family wishes to thank the staff at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital Hospice Care Center, and the staff at Avalon Assisted Living, Madison. Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com.
