Obituary
MADISON-Marilyn Joyce Mathews, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at Oakwood Village-Prairie Ridge. She was born on Sept. 14, 1932, in Green Bay, the daughter of Clarence and Violet (Vanderheyden) Demmer. Marilyn married Blair Mathews, the summer of 1955, in Green Bay. She received her bachelor degree from the UW-Madison and worked as a special education teacher for the Madison Metropolitan School District for many years. At an earlier time she was a Deacon and Sunday school teacher and active member at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Marilyn was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hiking, rowing, and traveling, as well as dancing and exercising. She was a lover of all animals, especially wild horses. Marilyn was always the caregiver to all and an involved volunteer to many local support organizations. Marilyn is survived by her four children, Craig (Laurie) and their children, Lynsey (Greg) Roe and Kevin (fiancé, Amanda Lambright) Mathews; Kyle (Barb) and their children, Logan, Dylan and Austin Mathews; Kristin Mathews and her son, Lukas Ellenbolt; and Kent (Jo) and their children, Tyler and Ross Mathews; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Benjamin Roe; and former husband, Blair (Karen Johnson). She was preceded in death by her parents. A celebration service will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST- TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at noon, on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, with the Rev. Wayne Shannon presiding.

Craig, Kyle, Kristin and Kent...my sympathies to you and your families. Your mom was a beautiful, warm, soft spoken lady. I will always remember your mom for her love of Maiden Lake. When I think of her, I picture her sitting on the dock or on the water rowing. Now her suffering is over and she is probably rowing on a lake much more beautiful than Maiden, if that is at all possible.

We worked with Marilyn at Leopold School. She was caring, generous and thoughtful. We loved teaching children with Marilyn. We remember going to her home for dinner once and picking raspberries in her backyard. That next year we started our own raspberry patch. Our prayers are with the family.
