Obituary

Christensen, Catherine Lorraine "Kitty" OREGON -Catherine Lorraine "Kitty" Christensen, age 77, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015. She was born on March 7, 1938, in Madison, the daughter of Ernest "Red" and Garnet (Wong) Olson. Kitty married Dallas Christensen in 1956 and together they raised four caring, loving daughters. Kitty was well-known for her nurturing spirit and her ability to make happiness felt by all who surrounded her. She openly welcomed all walks of life into her home with fresh-baked goodies, coffee and candy. Kitty enjoyed sharing her talent with others and eagerly taught the ways of a wonderful homemaker to anyone who was interested. She was not only an outstanding cook, baker and hostess but she could also keep a beautiful garden. Kitty was a woman who knew how to put herself together, a self-made beautician; she took great pride in her appearance and it certainly matched her inner radiance. She loved a good thrift store and had quite the collection of jewelry. Dementia may have taken nearly everything from her but it never took away the love in her heart or her infamous smooches, for that we are thankful. She exceeded at the role of a mother and a grandmother. She was an exceptional wife, sister and aunt; a woman truly driven by faith and family. Kitty is survived by daughters, Leota Christensen (Derek Olin) of Goodyear, Ariz., Heidi Christensen of Goodyear, Ariz, Brenda (Jody) Close of River Falls and Rhonda (Dennis) LaFlash of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Scott Close, Lacey (Juan) Mejia, Riley (Crystal) Close, Chase O'Brien, Margo LaFlash and Paige LaFlash; sisters, Georgia Gaffney and Connie Topper; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her one and only love, her husband, Dallas; her parents, Ernest "Red" and Garnet Olson; brother, Cod Olson; her sister, Gladys Holcomb; niece, Tracey Kluever; and son-in-law, Phil O'Brien. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. The family has chosen to have a private burial. We would like to extend our appreciation to those who went above and beyond for Kitty throughout her journey. The family is forever grateful to Sienna Meadows for being Kitty's safe haven, her home away from home. A thank-you also goes out to Agrace HospiceCare for the kind, gentle and comforting care they never failed to provide. To Kitty's Family, I lost my "Best Friend",....one who didn't remember she was my "Best Friend". We grew up together, went to school together, shared secrets as kids and teenagers, and married within a week of each other. She should have been a Beautician....she was always wanting to "fix" my hair or put make-up on me. I'll never forget when she "plucked" my eyebrows.:):):). She was an "Old Mother Hen" even back then....loved primping and fussing. Even though we didn't always see each other as often as we went our ways, raising our families, working ....we knew we only lived down the road from each other. I know she recognized me the first time I went to see her. Her eyes were just "sparkling" and she tried to talk to me. Other times when I went she just looked at me and I left crying. Dallas and Kitty were special people. I'll always remember the laughter and fun times. Mary Jane (Adams) Melvin

Rhonda, Dennis and family, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. My Mom Edna and Kitty would always sit together at Harbor House in Stoughton and I would visit with her and she always gave a big hug when I left. It has been 5 years since we lost our Mom and I know how life changes. Maybe they are having coffee together in Heaven...

To The Kitty Christensen Family: Dave worked with your Dad for many years at Bancroft Dairy. I always admired how pretty your Mom was and looked when she came to the 4 B Parties many years ago. We are sending our Love and Deepest Sympathy. Dave and Evelyn Arnold
