Obituary
MADISON-Bernetta Kathryn (Stoffel) Hable died with her children by her side on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born to Leo and Margaret (Steinmetz) Stoffel on October 7, 1930 and grew up in Bloomer, Wisconsin. She graduated from Bloomer High School in 1948 and attended nursing school in Wausau, Wisconsin. On August 21, 1952 Bernetta married her childhood sweetheart, Burton Hable, in Bloomer. The couple lived in Madison while Burton completed his senior year of college at the University of Wisconsin. A highlight of their first year of marriage was the trip to Pasadena, CA for the January 1, 1953 Rose Bowl when Burton was a safety for the UW football team. Burton accepted a teaching/coaching position at Madison West High School and they made Madison their home, spending summers in Bloomer as often as they could. Bernetta was the consummate mother and homemaker. She was a proud 52 year member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and an excellent Bridge player. She was delighted that she was able to pass the love-of-shopping gene to all of her female family members. Together, Burton and Bernetta raised seven children: Mary Kathryn (Garry) Acker of Eureka, MO, Martha (Paul) Pratt of Powell, OH, Susan (Scott) Cole of Racine, Ben (Laurie) Hable of Eden Prairie, MN, Fred (Renee) Hable of Madison, Chuck (Teri) Hable of Oshkosh and Christin (Dan) Filo of Naperville, IL. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: Betsy (Nick) Oksanen, Charlie Dvorak, Megan Acker, Sara (Evan) Bing, Amy and Brian Pratt, Laura and Andy Cole, Burton (Chloe), Robbie and Allie Hable, Adam, Jack and Britt Hable, and Alex and Austin Filo. Four great-grandchildren, Nora and Annika Oksanen and Miles and Baby (due in December) Bing, brought Bernetta special happiness in recent years. Bernetta is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Hable and his wife, Phyllis Whited. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burton in 2004 and her sister-in-law Ruth Hable in 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, with Monsignor Michael Burke presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. A luncheon will follow. Bernetta will be buried on Thursday, August 6 following a graveside service in North Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernetta's name to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

Such a wonderful and caring woman. Her laugh was contagious and the sparkle in her eye whenever family was around was one of a kind. May you you all reminisce of the many years of fun during this time of loss. Blessings to the entire Hable family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to her entire family. She & I were classmates & dear friends since our first grade together; sharing an apartment when we both worked in Chippewa Falls; being a bridesmaid for my wedding; and trying to keep in contact with each other over the years. The last time I saw her was a couple of years ago at her apartment when my daughter from Janesville took me to see her. She was still the jolly person she always had been despite her difficulties. She was so proud of all of you and I know you will miss her deeply.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. My family and I have been life long friends with the Hable's. Through all the good times and bad they are way more than friends they have become family. In our close neighborhood growing up Mrs. Hable was one of the mothers that helped raise me and my friends and helped us be the people we are today. I miss all the Baseball, football and Hockey trips we took. I'll always remember how patient and kind she always was with us boys. May all you find peace in memories you have of her. God Bless
