Obituary
MONONA – Florence "Flo" Guenterberg, age 77, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, was called to Heaven on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015. Mom was born on Aug. 28, 1937 in Springfield Township, to Aloysius "Allie" and Mildred (Schwab) Maly. Mom grew up on a farm in the Cottage Grove/McFarland area where she drove pick-up trucks and tractors, loaded hay bales, and worked in the tobacco fields. She attended Cottage Grove and Sun Prairie Schools, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1955. Following graduation, Mom embarked on a career with American Family Insurance for over 46 years, retiring in 2001. Mom married Dad, Emery "EJ" Guenterberg, on Nov. 26, 1959, and shared over 33 loving years together. Mom and Dad moved to Monona in 1960, where they made their home and raised three children. She was a life-long member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she attended weekly Mass, was a member of the St. Anne's Society, and generously volunteered countless hours at the IHM School. Mom enjoyed her ladies bowling league and was a member of the 600 Bowling Club. She also enjoyed playing softball, golfing, and couples bowling with Dad. Mom made life-long friendships during her years at American Family Insurance and enjoyed being a proud member of the 15 Year Club and the Sporty 40 Club. She also enjoyed participating in the Am Fam bowling and golf leagues, attending the retirement luncheons, and traveling extensively with her Am Fam friends. Mom loved her Packers, Brewers, and Badgers, especially as a season ticket holder for UW men's and women's basketball. She enjoyed traveling, camping, snowmobiling, and gardening, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. Mom cherished attending her children's and grandchildren's many school and athletic activities. "Granny Flo" was always visible on the sidelines, in the stands, or in the auditorium. She was their proudest cheerleader and biggest fan. Mom was always just a phone call, a step, or a short drive away to lend a hand to her family, her friends, or her church, and always with her contagious laugh, sparkling blue eyes, and beautiful smile that would light up a room. Mom is survived by her children, David (Cathy) Guenterberg of Monona and DeAnn (Steve) Munz of Cottage Grove; seven grandchildren, Derek Thompson, Danielle (Victor) Gomez, twins, DeAnn and Darcy, and Dana Guenterberg, and twins, Hailey and Jacob Munz; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Charlotte Thompson; two brothers, Jerry (Loretta) Maly and Robert (Donna) Maly; three nieces, Kim Romero, Lisa Femrite and Jennifer Heilman; as well as many other beloved relatives and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Denis Guenterberg; infant granddaughter, Ashly Munz; nephew, Jeffrey Maly; and mother-in-law, Irene Guenterberg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, with Father John Silva presiding. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved parents, husband, son, and granddaughter at Highland Memory Gardens in Madison. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday. Our family would like to express our gratitude to the Monona EMS for their deeply compassionate care of our beloved mother and grandmother, and to all of Mom's many friends who gave her so much joy in life. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any memorials given in Mom's name be directed to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. God called your name so gently, that only you could hear. No one heard the footsteps of the Angel drawing near. Softly from the shadows, there came a gentle call. You closed your eyes and went to sleep ... you quietly left us all. We love you and miss you beyond words; Until we meet again. We love you Mom and Gran! Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com.

My dear cousin, Florence, I shall miss you. I was a bit younger and Florence always had a smile for me. This sweet lady will be forever in my heart. Love and prayers to all the family. I won't be able to attend any services due to my health problems but I will be there in spirit.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family for your loss. Florence, Flo, I knew her as Lula, my dear Godmother for whom I'm named after. I was truly blessed. I just received my annual birthday card from her on August 6th. Still can't believe heaven called her home,so soon. I enjoyed our many talks. You were such a beautiful lady inside and out. I'm certain all of your hearts are broken as is mine. But we all know there are many in heaven awaiting for her fun, kind soul.

I knew Flo for many years while working at American Family.
She always had a smile , a good attitude & good work ethic.
.Always admired her for raising her family while her husband was on the road trucking.
Couldn't have been easy for her but never heard her complain.
My sincere sympathy to her family.

Prayers and hugs go out to the family of Florence, Flo was a true friend, a loyal client of mine for many years in the past. Past years we hadn't seen each other, but we were brought back together just a short time ago at my daughters wedding in July, we sure had a nice chat , and I am truly blessed to have shared that time with Flo.
