Obituary

MADISON- Dorothy A. (Schmidt) Alsmo, age 76, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Jan. 10, 1939, in Rockdale, the daughter of Marvin and Louise (Ender) Schmidt. Dorothy married Jim Alsmo on Sep. 15, 1956, in Rockdale. She and Jim were in the same Euchre card group for 51 years and they enjoyed going polka dancing together. Jim and Dorothy looked forward to their gambling bus trips and Dorothy spent many hours listening to Jim play in the Southern Wisconsin Old Time Fiddlers. She was the "Queen Mum" for the Red Hatter's Club. Dorothy was an active volunteer at Messiah Lutheran Church and also volunteered at St. Stephen's Food Pantry for 19 years. She was always thoughtful, putting others before herself, and never complained. Dorothy loved sewing, ceramics, knitting and crafts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Jim; sons, Vern (Penny) Alsmo and Mike (Sherry) Alsmo; grandchildren, Lee Alsmo, Sara Alsmo (Klayton Kasten) and Matt Alsmo; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, with the Pastor Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, yarn may be donated to Messiah Lutheran Church. Memorials may also be directed to the church. Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com. So sorry for your loss. I knew Dorothy for many years. I worked in the Peterson building, so I had a lot of contact with her. And recently we have been getting together for lunches with the retired payroll group. We will miss her. Karon Hamilton
