Obituary

MADISON-Troy M. Thompson, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, after a long illness. He was born in Madison on Dec. 5, 1925, son of the late William and Mary Thompson. Troy graduated from East High School in 1943, and joined the U.S. Army at age 18. He was a Purple Heart veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. Troy was a 40 year employee of Oscar Mayer, retiring in 1991. He was an avid Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Badgers fan. Troy is survived by his wife, Catherine Thompson; three daughters, Karen Mathis, Patricia (Jay) Thysse and Sandra (Don) Griffin; step children, Robert (Denise) Rudolph, David Rudolph, Audrey (Wade) Hauge and Ruth Hunter; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maybelle (Jim) Sullivan and Isabelle Fass. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen; beloved son, Michael; and sisters, Lucille MacDonald and Jeanette Zimmerman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Badger Honor Flight. The volunteers, flight team and board of Badger Honor Flight mourn the loss of their hero, Troy Thompson. We are thankful for his military service and honored to have served him on his trip to Washington, D.C. in October 2013.
