Obituary

DeWerd, Lorraine "Snooks" MADISON-Lorraine "Snooks" DeWerd passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Lorraine's story began when she was born to George and Sylvia DeWerd on Aug. 25, 1936, in Brentwood, Wis. She was blessed with a brother, Donald and a sister, Gayle (Tarantino). They grew up with many stories to be told, some of them quite funny. Lorraine attended Knox School where her love of learning and reading began. It was never hard to find her because all you would have to do is look up to the trees to find her engrossed in a book. Her parents eventually moved to Milwaukee where she attended Custer High School. She graduated high school with honors. At the age of 16, Lorraine got her first job at St. Michael's Hospital and thus began her career in the medical field. She started working in housekeeping and over the years earned her degree and advanced to Operating Room Technician, which she loved doing. Lorraine eventually retired from Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Nev. After high school, she met and married George Hutton and became a navy wife. Lorraine juggled 5 children from duty station to duty station. She had 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Lorraine is survived by her children, David (Mary) Hutton, Dawn (Harvey) Hutton, Patrick Hutton and Mary Hutton; grandchildren, Sarah Hutton, Andrew Hutton, Kimberlyann Kingan, Gregory Hutton, Justin Kingan, Ashley Kingan, Corry Hutton, Geoffrey Kingan, Daniel Munoz and Emily Hutton; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Hutton; and brother, Donald DeWerd. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 2 p.m., on Friday, July 31, 2015, with the Rev. Dean Howell presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Friday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
