Marian Johnson

MADISON-Marian C. Johnson, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 4, 1929, in DeForest, the daughter of Erwin and Ella (Paulman) Vesperman. She married Robert F. Johnson in Madison. Marian grew up on a farm in DeForest taking care of many animals. She graduated from DeForest High School, during which time she took an interest and played the accordion. After high school, Marian went to school and became a beautician. She worked as a beautician until she became a mother and stayed home to raise her children. Marian then went to work at UW Hospital where she baked and made a difference in people's lives. She retired early to take care of her husband and mother and from there, continued on taking care of her grandchildren. Marian enjoyed sewing, baking, word searches, reading, country music, crafts and adopted many dogs throughout her life. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people smile. Marian is survived by her children, Jean Coenen (Ed Simon) and Dean (Joan) Johnson; grandchildren, Craig (Kristi) Johnson, Heath Coenen (Nina), Jenny (Chase) Hendrix and Heather Coenen (Jeff); and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hailey and Nora Johnson, and Talan and Jaxan Hendrix. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be held at Bristol Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic charities and Agrace HospiceCare. The family would like to give a special thanks to Karla and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare, Angela J., Beth S., Jaylen and Belmont Nursing Home staff and the Catholic Charity Day Center staff for all of their wonderful care and support given to Marian during her brief stays, over the last years.
