Obituary

Minor, Mabel D. MADISON / MONTICELLO – Mabel Minor, age 87, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Oakwood Village West after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mabel was born in Madison on May 7, 1928. She graduated from Madison Central High School and was a beloved Madison School District secretary. Mabel retired from Randall Elementary in June, 1992. She was known in the various schools as one who loved and inspired the students and staff. Mabel played multiple practical jokes on the custodians she worked with and was known for her generous spirit of those less fortunate. Mabel's free time was spent in writing poetry, making cards, and gardening. Her later, retired, years were spent in sharing her time and values with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Mabel is survived by her children, Janet (Glenn) Gotrik of Mundelein, Ill., Gary (Laura) Minor of Shiloh, Ill., and Julie (John, ex) Pophal of Fitchburg. Also surviving are her eight well-loved grandchildren, Tina and Karen Gotrik, Nathan, Justin, Jeremy, and Janae Minor, and Christopher and Brett Pophal; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Ryser of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; her parents, Mabel S. Halverson and Leonard H. DeWaide; and her sister, Lenore Sticha. Funeral services will be held at THE CHURCH AT CHRIST MEMORIAL, 2833 Raritan Rd., Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. We purchased Ernie and Mabel's home on Marshall Bluff Rd. nearly 14 years ago, they were the nicest people we have ever met. They were like "family" right from the start. After Ernie passed away we lost touch with Mabel, I lost her daughter's address & phone number so were not able to contact her. Mabel's kindness will be with me always. My husband passed away in 2011 from cancer but I am still here on Marshall Bluff Rd. and I love it. It's easy to understand why it was so hard for them to leave here. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Mabel's family, I know she is with the angels because she was truly an angel here on earth.

Mabel was a wonderful sister to me and Lenore. We could always depend on her to listen to our problems and our joys. She was the most generous one in the family and an outstanding chef. Oh those Christmas dinners--what a spread,. I cherish all the memories we made. See you soon, Mabel Love, your sister, Marie To Janet, Julie and Gary, Your Austin family sends their sympathy and love.
