Obituary
Raymond, Huguette M. "Hugee"
PARIS, FRANCE/MADISON-Huguette M. "Hugee" Raymond, passed away at Sunny Hill Healthcare Center in Madison, on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at 97 ½ years of age. She was born on Dec. 27, 1917, to Marcel and Madeline Deligny Leonard in Paris, France. Hugee enjoyed a fine life growing up with her parents and two brothers, Roger and Jean, until living through the Occupation during World War II. It was from the war that she met her husband, Reuben Raymond at a dance. In 1947, at the age of 30, she left France to marry Reuben and begin her new life in Cambridge, Wis. After living there a short time they moved to Madison, where she spent the rest of her life. With her French background two of her loves always remained, listening to Edith Piaf records and reading her collection of Colette books. For 20 years she worked for Tellus Mater where she enjoyed meeting with the customers and purchasing many beautiful things from all parts of the world. Her degree in Interior Design from the University of Paris Art School was quite evident with how beautifully she decorated her homes. There she enjoyed entertaining her many friends until late in life with her sweet cat Zipper by her side, and her sense of humor always ready at hand. She had an artistic flair that carried over even in her writings. Those who knew her will never be served brie or bleu cheese, mini éclairs, almond kringle, raspberry sorbet, or pop open a bottle of champagne without remembering Hugee with great fondness. Hugee is survived by her four nephews, John Raymond, Kenneth (Kathy) Raymond, Karl (Jan) Raymond all of Cambridge and Paul (Gail) Raymond of Stoughton; and someone she lovingly referred to as her nephew, Olivier Espeisse of France. She also leaves behind many special friends who she cherished as her family; two friends who gave selflessly of their time for Hugee because they loved and enjoyed her were Laura Norby and Odvar Klovrud. She often referred to Odvar as her little brother. A celebration of Hugee's life will be held at ST. LUKE'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Thursday, July 30, 2015, with a time of gathering to follow. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Agrace HospicCare or Dane County Humane Society. We wish to thank Hugee's primary physician of many years, Dr. Watts and more recently Dr. Doro, as well as the fine staff from Sunny Hill Health Care Center, Home Health, Agrace HospiceCare and Brightstar Healthcare. Abraham Lincoln said, "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years." How blessed we were to see you enjoy both. We will miss you and your beautiful French accent. Love you Hugee. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
