Peter Victor Cerniglia

Cerniglia, Peter V. "Pete" MADISON–Peter V. "Pete" Cerniglia, age 78, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 18, 1936, in Madison, the son of Charles and Georgia (Schiro) Cerniglia. Pete graduated from Central High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Jill Ellis on Aug. 31, 1956. Pete worked for Gisholt from 1954-1958, Schlitz from 1958-1962 and the Madison Police Department from 1962 until his retirement in 1989. He played softball and baseball and bowled for many years. Pete loved playing cards, especially cribbage with his daughter, Ann. He also enjoyed gambling, working crossword puzzles, and being with his friends at Jerry's Place. Pete was a good husband, wonderful dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather, "papa". Pete is survived by his wife, Jill of 59 years; son, Jeff; daughters, Tari (Gary) Piediscalzzi and Ann (Arne) Cerniglia; brothers, Chuck and Bob (Kathy); sister, Marie (Doug) Griesbach; three grandchildren, Angela Cerniglia, Peter (Ashley) Piediscalzzi and Mario Cardarella; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe "Boofo"; and sister-in-law, Gerri White. A memorial service will be held at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 18, 2015. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Sitting outside with our neighbors this summer will not be the same for sure.
