Obituary
Carlson, Frederick E.
MADISON-Frederick E. Carlson, age 70, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home in Fitchburg. Fred was born on June 14, 1944, to Malcolm and Mary (Stumpf) Carlson of Madison. Early in life, he married Mina Lunda and had one daughter. He later married the love of his life, Eileen "Myrtle" McGaw and together they raised seven sons. Eileen preceded him in death in 2007. He then married a dear friend, Linda Peterson in 2012. Fred was a dedicated employee at Wisconsin Canteen, later C.L. Swanson Corp., for over 40 years. He was a family man and more than anything, loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Fred was dedicated to his loved ones and putting the needs of others before his own. He loved camping, hunting, and cheering on the Packers and Badgers. When he wasn't baking treats for his loved ones, Fred could most often be found sitting in his lawn chair cheering on his boys at the softball diamond. Fred and Eileen rarely missed a party, special event, or sports game that their grandchildren were involved in and welcomed everyone into their home with love. Fred is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Dana (Butch) Seivert, Steve (Brittaney Ringelstetter) Carlson, Scott (Erica) Carlson, Randy (Jean) Rogers, Ronnie (Debbie Greene) Rogers, Rick (Cheryl) Rogers, Bud (Lisa) Rogers, Rusty (Angie) Rogers, Dawn (Ken) Wermuth and Michelle (Craig) Rabuck; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Stan (Bonita) Carlson, Paul (Judy) Carlson, Chuck (Shirley) Carlson, Vicky Ross, Joe Carlson, Tim Carlson (Jeanne), and Terry (Marie) Carlson; godson, Miles Weaver; and dear friends, Gary and Joanne McKinley, Barb and Dave Daane, Patti Phillips, and Bill Brodd. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Eileen; first wife Mina Lunda; brothers, Daniel and Arthur Carlson; grandson, Donnie Nichols and his best friend, Ken Phillips. A Memorial Mass will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT THE ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015, with Monsignor Thomas Baxter presiding. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gary and Joanne McKinley for all of their love and support throughout the years. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I worked with Fred at C.L. Swanson's for 16 years and he was a great person to work with, one of the nicest people anyone could work for! Fred always had a great sense of humor and I think I only say him in a bad mood one time during my 16years of employment. Although I did not keep in contact with Fred after I left C.L. Swanson's I will always have the great memories of working together and making my time there much more pleasant . The one memory that I will always remember is when I was on my vending route up at the U.W. Madison one day and I was driving my van with the reefer on top under neath the Helen C. White library and got it stuck under a cement support in the underground parking area. I did not know how to get the van unstuck and thought I would lose my job, so I called Fred and he came up to the U.W. library and saw the situation and right away knew what to do. He let some air out of all the tires and I was able to drive my van out, and I did keep my job. Fred will be missed dearly by all who knew him, a super nice person!

Carlson family,
We are truly sorry for your loss. Words cannot describe what a humble and kind man Fred was. I had the pleasure of working with Fred and will always remember how calm and patient he was. The world has lost a great person and I'm very thankful that I knew him. He will be missed.

Some of the best memories I have as a child were the camping trips that we were blessed with Fred, family and friends. Sitting around the fire at night listening to the stories of Fred and my Dad growing up together, will always be close to my heart! I understand completely why they were friends, because they shared the same values in life. The biggest value they taught me was love of family and friends. Heaven has gained because of our loss. My heart is enlightened knowing that two friends have been restored and reunited.
