Lorraine Adeline Thorpe

Thorpe, Lorraine A. MADISON-Lorraine A. Thorpe, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, of natural causes at the UW Hospital. She was born on Nov. 1, 1922, in Christiana Township, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Tellefson) Smithback. Lorraine married Clarence O. Thorpe on Nov. 2, 1940. She was the dutiful servant of her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lorraine was gifted musically, being self-taught on piano as early as age 4. She later taught herself to play the accordion and many times through the years she was asked to play her accordion or keyboard at family gatherings. She continued playing her keyboard until her death. Lorraine was employed with Johns Mansville (Eastex Packaging) for over 20 years. She was previously employed at the Jet Room. Lorraine is survived by her son, Jim (Paula Wiltzius) Thorpe; grandson, Jim (Jessica) Thorpe Jr.; great-grandchildren, Riley and Alexi Thorpe; nieces, nephews; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1990; daughter, Beverly; sisters, Frances and Ruth; brothers, Harlan, Carrol, and Robert; and special sister-in-law, Janice Smithback. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 1, 2015, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. A luncheon will follow the service in the community room at the funeral home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
