Desotell, Larry W. "Big Lar"
BROOKLYN –Larry W. "Big Lar" Desotell, age 58, of Brooklyn, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at UW-Hospital in Madison. He was born on March 6, 1957, in Madison, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Mitmone) Desotell. He was united in marriage to Kathy E. Elmer on May 20, 1978, in Oregon. Larry was a lifelong resident of the Brooklyn/Madison area. He was employed with the University of Wisconsin for over 34 years in the maintenance department. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting guns, watching the Military Channel, westerns and his Chevy GMC trucks. Larry was a fan of John Wayne and loved to tell goofy jokes. Although he had many hobbies, his greatest enjoyment came from helping others and was always there to lend a hand to family or friends. Larry will be missed by his beloved family which include his wife, Kathy; daughter, Sara (Chase Farrell) Desotell; mother, Dorothy Desotell; brother, Mike Desotell; mother-in-law, Ruth Elmer; sister-in-law, Susan Blake; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Barb) Elmer and Gary (Sally) Elmer; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry; grandparents, Albert and Alpha Mitmone; father-in-law, Clifford Elmer; brother-in-law, Bret Blake; and uncle, Roger Mitmone. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at PEOPLE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 N. Alpine Parkway, Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 9, 2015, with Pastor Jason Mahnke presiding. A reception will follow the service. A time of gathering will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I remember Larry coming into MSQ with his wife and always had a smile on his face and alwaus stopped to say hi and visit with you! He was a very nice guy! He would come and spend time with his Mom! Larry and I worked together for 34 years at the UW Madison Physical Plant. He was always willing to give a hand when needed. His work experience and sense of humor made him a valued member of my work crew. We shared many laughs together and I could depend on him to get the job done under difficult conditions. We shared a common interest in firearms and talked about them often. I will miss his laughter and his jokes. Kathy and Family I am sorry for your loss. RIP Big Lar

My thoughts and prayers to the family. Kathy and Sara I will miss him and always remember him. Larry and I would always spend time discussing just about anything we could to get a chuckle out of when he would stop in for a oil change. I know the guys in the shop will miss his company. They all knew him and loved having him to talk to while servicing the family vehicles. Larry was a friend, and customer but most of all he was kind and fun to be around.
