Obituary

Leah Harmony Goettl, age 16, of Madison, Wisconsin died Monday, May 11, 2015, at American Family Children Hospital in Madison.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Gunderson Funeral and Cremation Care in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. The service will be open to all and will begin at 5:00 p.m.  Upon Leah's request, later this year with her family present, we will be taking a trip to Hawaii to spread her ashes to continue the cycle of life. On Monday, May 11, 2015 Leah passed away with her family and loved ones around her. Leah was battling from bone marrow disease since she was six years old. She was a fighter and wanted to be cured of this disease. Earlier this year Leah started getting ready for a bone marrow transplant. Leah's older sister Elysia was a perfect match for the transplant. The transplant was to give her a normal disease free life.  She received the transplant from her sister on March 24, 2015. After three weeks of positive progress she was due to be released from the hospital, April 20, 2015. On April 16th, 2015 she started having respiratory problems. The respiratory problems turned out to be Idiopathic Pneumonia Syndrome (IPS), which is a significant clinical problem encountered among patients treated with bone marrow transplantation. She fought bravely for three weeks but tragically she passed away due to IPS.   Leah Harmony Goettl was born January 4th, 1999 in Menomonie, Wisconsin. She was a sophomore at Verona High School in Madison, WI.. She loved her family and was an advocate for animals. She was independent, brave, and would always speak her mind. She loved playing World of Warcraft and Xbox. We will always remember her infectious smile and her inspiring courage and strength.  Leah is survived by her parents, Ajuna Baker and Steve Goettl, and her step-dad Jacob Baker; two sisters Elysia and Serenity and brother Lincoln; grandparents Wayne and Sonia Morgan, Pat Goettl and Paula Solfest her step grand parents Jeff Baker, Sally Jorgenson and Sarina Kent; aunts Kelly Morgan, Heather Mcloud, and Christina Tracy; uncles James and Timothy Morgan, Tim, Mike Micha, Marty Goettl, Dominik Baker, Kyle Jorgenson, Rodney Tracy, Doug Mcloud and Trenton Kent; nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her great grandmother Doris Faye Morgan and grandmother Louis Johnson.

One of the biggest mistakes I will ever make in my life is not contacting Leah Goettl. Even if we were not in close contact before I truly miss her soul and it still has not sunk in that she is gone. My prayers go out to the Goettl family and they travel through one of the hardest things in life. Leah was taken too soon and will be missed by all who crossed her path.

I got to know Leah through my niece Nicole and had thought/expected I had more time to get to know her. Unfortunately that is not to be. I do know that she gave Nicole love and friendship and that is invaluable. Thanks you Leah, your star will always shine brightly!

Leah was one of my best friends. I never got to say a final goodbye. On her last day at school before she left for treatment we all said "see yah later". I never thought that that would mean goodbye forever. I will miss her so much. One of my best memories of her is at summer school our teacher always was mixing us up. So we came up with going by "thing 1" and "thing 2" because we had the same name said the same way but different spellings. That's what a lot of our friends called us when we were all together. We had plans to make shirts for Halloween this upcoming October with our nicknames on it. I know her sister also who is also amazing. Both of them have always been their for me. I will miss her hugs. RIP Leah!

Marcus loved that he got to see both girls more at school the past couple of years. I saw all the posts on Facebook and wanted to contact you but wasn't sure what to say or how to say it. We'll miss Leah very much. Give Elysia our love.

I didn't know Leah that well but during the time I did, it was one of the best times ice ever had. She was and will always be a loyal, everlasting, awe inspiring, heart warmer. You will always be missed by us.
