Maier, John M. "Johnny" CROSS PLAINS-John M. "Johnny" Maier, age 70, died on Saturday, May 9, 2015, after a yearlong courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born on Dec. 27, 1944 in Madison, the son of John J. and Rose (Endres) Maier of Martinsville. Johnny was a dedicated employee of St. Francis Xavier Parish, serving over 50 years as custodian. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 3924. Johnny enjoyed playing cards with his friends, and watching sports and western movies on television. Johnny is survived by two brothers, Joseph of Florida and Edwin (Louise) of Waunakee; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Maier of Waunakee and Joan Maier of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Norbert, Harold, Elmer and Jerome; and his sisters, Marion (Louis) Block, Elizabeth Maier and Rose (Valentine) Ballweg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, with Father Tom Kelley presiding. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Johnny was one of the most giving and kind hearted people I've ever met. He was always so nice to our boys at school and would do ANYthing for those kids!
